Job summary

Lyell McEwin Hospital, part of SA Health, seeks a Technical Officer TGO3 in Biomedical Engineering for a fixed-term full-time role at Adelaide’s north. You will deliver specialist biomedical support across a broad clinical equipment portfolio, including maintenance, safety inspections, and lifecycle planning.

Ideal candidates hold a Diploma/Advanced Diploma in a technical field, with proven experience in medical device maintenance and a strong grasp of AS/NZS 3551 and Australian Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of medical devices to manufacturer and Australian Standards requirements.
  • Coordinate equipment acceptance testing and safety inspections to support clinical risk management.
  • Maintain accurate records within the asset management system and contribute to equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Provide technical guidance to clinical and operational staff on safe equipment use and escalation pathways.

Lyell McEwin Hospital is one of South Australia's busiest metropolitan health services, and the biomedical engineering team underpinning its clinical operations is central to safe, uninterrupted patient care. If you bring hands‑on expertise in medical equipment management and want your technical skills to have a direct impact on community health outcomes across Adelaide's north, this fixed‑term full‑time opportunity — active until 16 August 2027 — is worth your attention.

What You'll Be Working On

Reporting within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) and based at Lyell McEwin Health Service, you will deliver specialist biomedical engineering support across a broad clinical equipment portfolio. Your day‑to‑day will include:

  • Performing scheduled maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of medical devices and systems to manufacturer and Australian Standards requirements

What You'll Bring
  • A qualification in electrical/electronic engineering, biomedical engineering technology, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in the maintenance and repair of medical or complex electronic equipment
  • Familiarity with Australian Standards and regulatory requirements relevant to medical devices (including AS/NZS 3551)
  • Strong fault‑finding skills and the ability to work methodically under competing priorities
  • Experience working within, or willingness to align with, SA Health's safety and quality frameworks
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for liaising with clinical teams and external service agents

To be eligible for this position, you must have aDiploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant technical discipline.
