Job summary

GHD Advisory in Australia seeks a Technical Director - Generator Connections to lead the Generator Connection Studies Team across Australia and NZ, providing technical leadership and strategic direction on generator connection projects.

You will mentor engineers, scope and price assignments, deliver reports to clients and AEMO, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on future energy solutions. Brisbane or Melbourne offices with a flexible hybrid work model are available.

Qualifications

• Require relevant qualifications in electrical engineering with strong academic record.
• Significant experience in generator connections and power system analysis, preferably in Australia.
• Ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale projects with independent work style.

We're looking for a Technical Director - Generator Connections to join our Generator Connection Studies Team.

The nature of the business model at GHD allows for a high level of flexibility in where it is located,and this can be done from in our Brisbane or Melbourne office.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Directly influence the commercial performance of the team by working to ensure assignments are adequately scoped and priced, scope and quality is appropriately managed during the delivery phase and where necessary variations are sought from our clients.
• Support the development of the generator connection studies business, with a priority focus on the power sector in Australia and New Zealand.
• Providing technical leadership and coaching to develop team members focused on generator connections and power systems
• Generating reports for Clients, Network Companies and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
• Working as a part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver 'future energy' solutions
• Work with our international and inter-state branches to deliver a wide range of renewable energy projects.
  

What you will bring to the team?

• Relevant qualifications and a good academic record in electrical engineering
• Significant experience in generator connections and power system analysis, preferably gained in Australia
• A desire to mentor and support our junior engineers
• Ability to work independently on challenging large-scale projects and consistent record of successful project delivery
• Power systems software expertise including PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory and MATLAB
• Advanced programming skills in Fortran and Python
• Experience in grid forming and virtual grid technologies
• Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Australian National Electricity Rules and International Standards
• Experience in load flow, short circuit analysis, dynamic studies and EMTP simulations
• Understanding of the generator connection process in the NEM.
• Effective communication skills to liaise with clients.
