We are looking for a Team manager to join our Psychiatric Liaison Emergency Department Team based at Cambridge University Hospital.

We require an individual with experience in Liaison psychiatry to respond to referrals from the Emergency department. Post‑hours work will be full time (1 WTE) on a shift pattern, covering managerial and clinical duties.

Main duties of the job
  • Operational leadership of MHP's within LPS in emergency department.
  • Clinical oversight and governance alongside consultant psychiatrists.
  • Roster management.
  • Supervision of MHP's within the service.

Job responsibilities

  • To conduct biopsychosocial and risk assessments for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department with mental health problems and admitted to inpatient wards at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
  • To be responsible for delivering the quality agenda within LPS ED team in conjunction with the team manager for inpatients.
  • To ensure the team is working towards achieving key performance indicators, such as response times and positive patient feedback.
  • To develop and maintain positive working links with interfacing services at CUH and within CPFT.
  • Ensure the climate and culture for the support and development of student placements.
  • To contribute to other Trust wide initiatives in conjunction with other Team Managers.
  • To undertake performance management with all staff (this includes appraisals and supervision) and monitor compliance with mandatory training.
  • To participate in recruitment and actively enhance retention through a quality agenda.
  • Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the assertive management, assessment and care of patients presenting with mental health problems.
  • Take a lead to develop the frequent attenders program in conjunction with CUH.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent professional registration.
  • Evidence of relevant post registration training and development.
  • Independent and supplementary prescriber.
  • Mentor and mentorship training.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years post registration experience in working with people with mental health needs within an acute Trust.
  • Community and in‑patient experience in mental health services.
  • Considerable experience in the assessment and management of clinical risk.
  • Experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry.
  • Experience working in an Emergency Department environment.
Skills & Abilities
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision.
  • Competent IT skills including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively, meeting expected deadlines.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • High level of self‑awareness, recognising own strengths and limitations.
  • Advanced understanding of the mental health needs of adults.
