Job summary

PTG Consulting in Melbourne's Tullamarine office is seeking a senior geotechnical engineer (5-7 years) to join as Team Leader. You will lead a growing team, mentor staff, and drive projects from inception to delivery across geotechnical analysis, reporting, and fieldwork.

The ideal candidate has strong project and people management skills, knowledge of Victorian geology, and proficiency with SlopeW/Geostudio. Local travel to sites will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• 5-7 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Local experience with Victorian geology.
• Proficient in geotechnical logging and interpretive reporting.
• RPEV or CPEng qualification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop staff, including recruitment and performance management.
• Ensure project timelines and high-quality deliverables with proper resource allocation.
• Drive business development by maintaining industry networks and client relationships.
• Manage branch budgets and monitor financial performance.
• Maintain compliance with administration, reporting, and insurance requirements.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Supervise fieldwork and conduct geotechnical reporting.
• Undertake stability assessments using SlopeW and Geostudio.
• Contribute to retaining wall and basement retention design.

About the Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled senior geotechnical engineer with 5-7 years of experience to join an expanding and dynamic team in ourTullamarine office as the Team Leader. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of geotechnical analysis and proven project and people management skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop staff, including recruitment, training, and performance management
• Ensure project timelines are met and deliverables are of high quality through appropriate resource allocation
• Drive business development by tracking opportunities, maintaining industry networks, and supporting client relationships
• Prepare and manage branch budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure targets are met
• Maintain compliance across administration, reporting, and insurance requirements
• Communicate and coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
• Supervise and conduct a wide range of fieldwork
• Undertake factual and interpretive geotechnical reporting
• Undertake stability assessments with software including SlopeW and/or Geostudio (or similar)
• Retaining wall and basement retention design
• Conduct and communicate construction verification on foundations and other earthworks assessments

About You

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering
• 5-7 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering
• Local experience and understanding of Victorian geology
• Proficient in geotechnical logging, interpretive reporting and managing site investigations.
• Excellent knowledge of testing soils to relevant Australian and State or Territory Standards
• Member of Engineers Australia
• RPEV or CPEng Qualification
• Knowledge of quality, safety and environmental compliance requirements and a commitment to keeping safety at the core of everything you do
• Personable with strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proven track record of managing client relationships
• Proven track record of managing staff
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to travel to project sites as needed
• Current Automatic Class C Drivers License
