Job summary

Queensland Department of Education – Parramatta State School in Cairns, QLD is seeking a dedicated teacher for its school-based Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP). The role supports children aged 0–5 with disability or suspected disability, delivering play-based, family-centred programs and coordinating with families, health services and community agencies.

The position is part-time (0.5FTE) commencing Term 3, 2026, with duties including developing transition plans, reporting measures

Qualifications

  • A relevant teaching qualification.
  • Full or provisional QCT registration.
  • Australian working rights or a valid visa.
  • Blue Card exemption.
  • Current Queensland driver licence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with families, early childhood services and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement child-centred learning and transition plans that respond to children's strengths, needs and family priorities.
  • Deliver evidence-based, high-quality teaching and disability-specific supports aligned to the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.
  • Build effective working relationships with centres, schools, families, NDIS and community agencies, and Department of Education health professionals and specialists.
  • Support children, families and schools to ensure successful transition into and through the Prep year.
  • Maintain documentation to support compliance with policy and procedure, and the effective delivery of services.
  • Manage priorities and timelines to meet reporting requirements and achieve child-centred outcomes.

Queensland Department of Education - Cairns QLD

Parramatta State School is home to Cairns' only school-based Early Childhood Development Program, providing specialised early intervention support for children from birth to Prep who have, or are suspected of having, significant educational needs. This unique role offers theopportunity to work as part of a trans-disciplinary team delivering individualised, play-based and family-centred programmes that support children's development, wellbeing, communication and participation.

We are seeking a dedicated teacher to join our ECDP team commencing Term 3, 2026. This unique role is suited to someone who is passionate about working with young children with disability or developmental delay and who bring strong interpersonal, organisational and collaboration skills.

In this part-time (0.5FTE) role, you will support children aged 0-5 with disability or suspected disability to build a strong start to education and experience positive transitions to kindergarten and school. Support is provided to children who have been diagnosed, or are suspected of having, autism, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, physical impairment, speech language impairment and/or vision impairment.

You will work closely with families, health services, NDIS, community agencies and early childhood services to strengthen collaborative partnerships and support inclusive practices. You will also be responsible for completing ECDP system-wide measures and reporting within required timeframes.
