Position Information: West Wyalong High School is a comprehensive rural education school in the north western part of the Riverina, situated on the lands of the Wiradjuri people, 155 kms North East of Griffith. The school serves the town of West Wyalong and surrounding villages in the Bland Shire. The enrolment 7 to 12 has ranged between 245-310 over the past 5 years. In 2026 we have a population of 245 students of which 45 identify as having an aboriginal background and 11 students are EAL/D (English as additional language or dialect).

The school staffing in 2026 is 32 teaching staff and 6 non-teaching staff. The school entitlement for Head Teachers is 4 and we utilise equity funding to employ a classroom teacher on higher duties as a Head Teacher (above entitlement) In 2026, the executive team has remained stable with a mix of new and experience leaders. Additional student learning support officers are employed through the use of equity and disability funding to provide additional targeted learning support for our students. We currently have two multi-categorical classes which requires two additional Special Education teachers and a Learning and Support Teacher.

Our curriculum in senior high school will continue to integrate a strong vocational education focus including Construction, Hospitality, Primary Industries and Manufacturing and Engineering. Productive relationships and partnerships with the Bland Shire Council, Riverina TAFE, West Wyalong Local Aboriginal Lands Council, West Wyalong Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, Evolution Mine and the Lake Cowal Foundation provide further opportunities for the school and are valued connections to our local community.

Specific Selection Criteria: Approval to teach English 7-12 and either qualifications and/or willingness to teach History 7-10 and Drama. Capacity to implement effective classroom management strategies to maximise student growth and promote high expectations for all students. Highly developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated capacity to contribute collaboratively to quality faculty, and whole-school initiatives, to address the needs of a range of diverse learners.

Conditions: An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
