Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants in Perth is seeking a Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer to join our Perth Tailings Group, supporting mine waste and tailings projects for Tier 1 energy and resources clients.

You will apply geotechnical knowledge to design tailings storage facilities, assess dam safety, and work with multi-disciplinary teams across geotechnical, hydrogeology and civil engineering.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required.
• Be eligible for Engineers Australia membership and CPENG status or working towards it.
• 1–5+ years of consulting experience in geotechnical practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This role focuses on support our client’s tailings and mine waste management and operational teams to ensure their facilities are safe. Compliance to the latest standards (which are evolving) is critical for mining companies to demonstrate their commitment to ESG and for the Social License to Operate. This role forms part of our team to provide the technical and operation support for Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and Water Storage Facilities (WSF).

As a Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer, this role requires the application of the tasks listed below (geotechnical engineer), but also an expanding knowledge of all elements and disciplines required to design these facilities, such as hydrogeology, process, geochemistry, water, civil engineering and social engagement.

Some of the key responsibilitiesmay include:

• Civil/Geotechnical/Tailings dam design;
• Geotechnical analyses using various software packages;
• Oversee and co-ordinate geotechnical field investigation programs
• Oversee and co-ordinate geotechnical laboratory testing programs
• Work closely with Engineers-of-Record (EoR) on long-term operational projects
• Write technical reports, proposals, and papers
• Develop geotechnical assessments and analysis capabilities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients

Education and Licensure

• Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (required)
• Be eligible for membership of Engineers Australia and either have or be working towards CPENG status (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• 1-5+ years of consulting experience operating within a geotechnical practice group
• Experience with using geotechnical logging software (Tablogs, Holebase, etc)
• Competent in the use of GIS or CAD package/s
• Working knowledge of geotechnical investigation standards and practices
• Strong understanding of Health and Safety planning, processes and procedures
• Past experience with geotechnical investigations at mine sites
• Experience with geotechnical interpretation (i.e. CPiET) and analysis (i.e. Slope/W).
• Familiarity with dam safety guidelines including ANCOLD, GISTM, CDA and WA-DMR
• Civil or tailings engineering general
• Experience in the GIS, CAD or Tailings Modelling software (i.e. QGIS, 12d, AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Muk3D)
