Job summary

CQUniversity Mackay invites qualified tradespeople with experience in light vehicle mechanical technology to join as a VET Teacher – Automotive Light. You will train apprentices in both workshop and classroom settings, sharing practical industry knowledge and helping students graduate job-ready.

No teaching experience is required – CQUniversity provides a fully funded TAE40122 qualification and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• A minimum qualification in Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology is required.
• Current hands-on industry experience in electrical installation, maintenance, fault finding, testing, commissioning or industrial environments.
• An interest in mentoring apprentices, sharing your knowledge and guiding learners in both workshop and classroom settings.
• No teaching experience required – willingness to work in a structured setting with assessment, documentation and student support.

• Support apprentices to achieve Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

We'll provide a fully funded TAE40122 qualification and support you every step of the way while you're employed and earning. Working with apprentices, you'll deliver hands-on training, share practical industry knowledge and help them graduate confident, capable and job-ready.

Your week

CQUniversity operates under a structured Vocational Education and Training (VET) workload model that recognises both teaching time and the work done outside the classroom environment.

• 36.25 hrs/week (full-time) covering teaching, preparation, marking and student support.
• Teaching time is typically 22 hrs/week, with up to 25 hrs by agreement – no more than 9 teaching hours in a day.
• Prep and marking are included in your paid hours – not done in your own time.
• Flexible start and finish times, planned around teaching needs, with flexibility supported where possible to accommodate personal, family and carer responsibilities.

What You’ll Need

• A minimum qualification in Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology is required. Dual-trade candidates, particularly those with a qualification in Auto Electrical or another complementary trade, will be highly regarded.
• Current hands-on industry experience in areas such as electrical installation, maintenance, fault finding, testing, commissioning or industrial environments.
• An interest in mentoring apprentices, sharing your knowledge and guiding learners in both workshop and classroom settings.
• No teaching experience required – only a willingness to work in a structured setting with assessment, documentation and student support.
