Job summary

Leidos Australia is seeking a talented Systems Engineer/Integrator to join the GEO SPACES Program in Canberra for a 12-month contract. You will contribute to sustainment, integration and secure engineering of mission-critical systems, working with systems engineers, software engineers and customer stakeholders.

Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings together expertise across intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The Opportunity

Join the GEO SPACES Program, a nationally significant capability delivering geospatial and mission-critical systems that support Australia’s Defence and national security objectives. As a Systems Integrator, you will play a key role in the sustainment and evolution of complex operational systems, working within a secure and highly collaborative engineering environment.

This is a 12-month contract opportunity offering the chance to work on high-impact systems that contribute directly to critical Defence outcomes while collaborating with experienced engineering and technical specialists.

In This Role, You Will

• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement, sustainment and integration of systems across the GEO SPACES Program, ensuring technical solutions remain secure, reliable and aligned to operational requirements.
• Work closely with systems engineers, software engineers, architects, project teams and customer stakeholders to investigate issues, implement system changes and support engineering decision-making throughout the system lifecycle.
• Support the delivery of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), systems analysis, requirements management and design activities, helping to progress capabilities through engineering governance and assurance processes.
• Partner with Configuration Management and Verification & Validation teams to ensure system changes are controlled, traceable, verified and documented, contributing to the successful delivery of outcomes that support critical Defence capabilities.

About You

You are an experienced Systems Engineer or Systems Integrator who enjoys working in complex environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to solve technical challenges. You bring a methodical approach to engineering, an appreciation for governance and assurance frameworks, and the ability to balance sustainment priorities with evolving capability needs.

Essential

• Experience working in systems engineering, systems integration or sustainment roles within complex project, enterprise, Defence or government environments.
• Knowledge of systems engineering principles, engineering lifecycles and requirements management practices.
• Experience undertaking systems analysis, engineering investigations and contributing to solution design activities.
• Ability to develop and maintain engineering documentation, including requirements, design artefacts, impact assessments and technical reports.
• Experience supporting engineering change management activities and working within configuration-controlled environments.
• Understanding of engineering governance, assurance, verification and validation processes.
• Ability to identify, assess and manage technical risks while supporting informed engineering decision‑making.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience working within Agile or hybrid delivery environments and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

Advantageous

• Experience supporting Defence capability, intelligence, geospatial or mission systems.
• Familiarity with ITIL‑aligned service management, sustainment frameworks and operational support environments.
• Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned activities and engineering best practices.
• Exposure to secure enterprise environments requiring adherence to security, quality and assurance frameworks.
