Job description

Join our Downer Professional Services team and express your interest in future opportunities with us. We are seeking to engage skilled professionals with Defence or Defence industry experience to join our permanent workforce and support complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi‑disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We’re currently recruiting across Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne with experience aligned with the following roles:

  • Systems Integration Engineering
  • Requirements Engineering
  • Systems Administration
  • Communication Engineers
  • Systems Safety Engineers
What You’ll Bring
  • Previous experience ideally within the Defence or consulting services industries.
  • Proven experience working in Land, Communications, Navy, Space or other Defence sectors.
  • Experience with Validation and Verification (V&V), Test and Evaluation (T&E), System Design, Safety Engineering and/or systems concepts and specifications.
  • Strong engineering experience in a hands‑on role as well as ability to consult and lead projects.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and stakeholder management.
  • Qualified/certified Engineer or holding an equivalent engineering qualification.

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
