Job summary

National Rugby League is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Technology Team in Sydney. You will design, implement and maintain the infrastructure that underpins the NRL's digital ecosystem, spanning cloud and on‑premise environments, networking, security and high availability for millions of fans and partners.

You will work with AWS and/or Azure, use Terraform or CloudFormation, Docker and Kubernetes, and partner with Development, Data and Security teams to deliver reliable, scalable

Qualifications

  • Extensive infrastructure engineering and systems administration experience.
  • Strong background in cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure).
  • Experience with IaC and containerisation (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of security best practices and identity management.
  • Proven stakeholder and vendor management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain cloud and on-premise infrastructure environments.
  • Support the infrastructure powering critical NRL technology platforms and services.
  • Implement infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions.
  • Manage networking, telecommunications and system administration activities.
  • Support disaster recovery, backup and business continuity capabilities.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure security controls and monitoring solutions.
  • Lead infrastructure improvement and modernisation initiatives.
  • Partner with Development, Data and Security teams to deliver reliable and scalable technology solutions.
  • Manage relationships with cloud providers, technology vendors and external support partners.

About The Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing and maintaining the infrastructure that underpins the NRL's digital ecosystem.

You will work across cloud, networking, systems, telecommunications and security technologies, ensuring our platforms remain secure, scalable and highly available. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, driving infrastructure modernisation and supporting critical technology services used by millions of fans, participants and partners.

In The Role You Will
  • Design, implement and maintain cloud and on-premise infrastructure environments.
  • Support the infrastructure powering critical NRL technology platforms and services.
  • Implement infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions.
  • Manage networking, telecommunications and system administration activities.
  • Support disaster recovery, backup and business continuity capabilities.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure security controls and monitoring solutions.
  • Lead infrastructure improvement and modernisation initiatives.

Ideally you will have
  • Extensive experience in infrastructure engineering, systems administration or a similar technical role.
  • Strong experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Experience managing hybrid infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Strong networking, systems administration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks, identity and access management, and security best practices.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and vendor management skills.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and passion for emerging technologies.
