Job summary

John Holland is seeking a Systems and Assurance Engineer to join the Sydney Metro West Linewide Project Team in NSW. You will ensure rail systems are designed, constructed and operated to meet safety, reliability, availability and maintainability standards.

You will collaborate with project delivery organisations, assess risks, review submissions and support risk management across multiple projects and tenders, delivering safe and robust rail infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or relevant tertiary qualification with at least 3 years post-graduate experience.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary systems engineering and assurance practices; rail industry experience is a plus.
  • Previous Systems and Safety Assurance experience in Rail.
  • Delivery of contemporary systems engineering and assurance practices.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to manage stakeholders across different projects and build positive relationships.
  • Be proactive and delivery focused.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination and monitoring of systems assurance activities.
  • Participate in risk assessment activities for railway operations and mitigate hazards.
  • Support project/tender teams in implementing risk management elements and evaluating risks.
  • Review and comment on systems assurance submissions.
  • Ensure safety requirements are included in designs and communicated to parties.
  • Review processes and assurance evidence for alignment with verification and validation strategy.
  • Ensure measures to support, monitor and review design safety assurance.
  • Manage and monitor the systems assurance program on projects and tenders.

About The Project

Sydney Metro West is a transformational 24 km underground railway connecting Sydney CBD to Parramatta, with stations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont and Hunter Street.

The Linewide package connects the entire system, delivering the critical rail infrastructure and technology that bring the metro network to life.

Project offices are located across several Sydney locations including the CBD, Clyde, Rosehill, The Bays and Burwood North.

The Role

We are currently seeking a passionate Systems and Assurance Engineer to join our Sydney Metro West Linewide Project Team. In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to work on an iconic rail infrastructure projects.

Your main responsibility will be to ensure that the rail systems on our projects are meticulously designed, constructed, and operated to meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, availability, and maintainability. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the coordination and monitoring of systems assurance activities performed by the relevant project delivery organisations.
  • Participate in and assist with the risk assessment activities for railway operations to ensure that potential hazards are identified, adequately assessed, and mitigated.
  • Support the project and tender teams in effectively implementing risk management elements, recommending effective risk control measures, and evaluating the initial and residual risk involved.
  • Review and comment on systems assurance submissions.
  • Ensure safety requirements have been included in designs and communicated to relevant parties.
  • Review key project processes, documentation, and assurance evidence to ensure alignment with verification and validation strategy across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all appropriate measures and feedback is in place to support, monitor and review all aspects of the design safety assurance review process.
  • Manage and monitor the systems assurance program on projects and tenders.
About You
  • You will have a Bachelor degree in Engineering or relevant tertiary qualification with at least 3 years post-graduate experience.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary systems engineering and assurance practices and ideally, experience within the rail industry.
  • Previous Systems and Safety Assurance experience in Rail.
