Veterinary Specialist Services Pty Ltd. invites applications for a 12-month Surgical Internship commencing January 2027 at our Underwood or Jindalee hospitals.

The program provides hands-on rotation among surgeons, residents and nursing teams to develop clinical and surgical skills in referral small animal surgery. The role targets individuals preparing for membership examinations or residency, with exposure to multidisciplinary case management, journal clubs and ongoing professional

Formación

• A degree in Veterinary Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Eligibility for veterinary registration in Queensland.
• Genuine interest in Small Animal Surgery and commitment to ongoing learning.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Adaptability and flexibility in responding to changing clinical needs.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality patient and client care.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Sound organisational and time-management skills.
• Previous experience in small animal general practice, emergency practice or a veterinary internship.
• Demonstrated interest or further education in Small Animal Surgery.
• Experience managing hospitalised or perioperative patients.
• Interest in preparing for membership examinations or pursuing residency training.
• Interest in clinical research, scientific writing or veterinary education.

Responsabilidades

• Supporting the assessment, investigation and management of surgical patients.
• Assisting with the ongoing and perioperative care of hospitalised patients, with some weekend and overnight work where applicable.
• Participating in surgical procedures under the guidance of our surgical team.
• Rotating between surgeons and gaining exposure to different clinical approaches.
• Developing surgical knowledge, technical skills and clinical reasoning.
• Communicating with clients and referring veterinary practices.
• Maintaining accurate and comprehensive clinical records.
• Working collaboratively with specialists, residents, veterinarians, nurses and rotating interns.
• Participating in clinical rounds, journal clubs and educational seminars.
• Contributing positively to the daily operation of the Surgery service.
• Exploring opportunities to present at seminars or contribute to a scientific abstract or publication, where appropriate.
