Job summary

Water Corporation is seeking a Surface Water Operator based at Kelmscott Depot to operate and optimise treatment systems, monitor water quality, and support essential 24/7 water production across dams, catchments and treatment facilities. You will engage in field work, asset inspections and environmental monitoring in a permanent role.

You’ll work across treatment plants, dams and catchment areas with a roster including after-hours shifts, contributing to safety and reliable supply for Western

Qualifications

  • C Class and HR Class Driver's Licence required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to operational issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with contractors, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Desirable: Dams Safety training.
  • Desirable: Experience working with chlorine systems.
  • Desirable: Confined Space Entry certification.
  • Desirable: Working at Heights certification.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and optimise water treatment and production processes to ensure safe, reliable water supply across surface water schemes.
  • Monitor treatment processes and respond to issues, identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct water quality sampling, testing and inspections for compliance.
  • Perform routine operational maintenance and coordinate with contractors.
  • Inspect and operate dam infrastructure including outlets, gates, and screens.
  • Undertake catchment surveillance and monitor reservoirs and land use.
  • Participate in after-hours roster and support continuous operations.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture.

About the role

Join Water Corporation as a Surface Water Operator and play a hands-on role in protecting and supplying safe drinking water to millions of Western Australians. Based at our Kelmscott Depot, you'll work across dams, catchments and treatment facilities, operating and optimising critical water treatment systems while helping safeguard some of WA's most important water sources.

This permanent opportunity offer’s a unique mix of treatment operations, field-based work, asset inspections and environmental monitoring, with participation in an after-hours roster supporting our essential 24/7 operations.

What you can expect with this role

In this varied role, no two days will be the same. You'll be responsible for operating and optimising water treatment and production processes to ensure safe, reliable water supply across our surface water schemes.

Working across treatment plants, dams and catchment areas, you'll:

  • Monitor and optimise treatment processes, responding to operational issues and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct water quality sampling, testing and process inspections to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Perform routine operational maintenance and coordinate with contractors and internal teams to support maintenance and commissioning activities.
  • Inspect and operate dam infrastructure including outlet works, gates, valves and screens.
  • Undertake catchment surveillance activities, monitoring reservoirs, streams, land use and recreational areas to help protect source water quality.
  • Participate in the team roster including an after-hours, responding to incidents, conducting routine after hour’s patrols and supporting the continuous operations of critical water infrastructure.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture, ensuring all work is performed with the health and wellbeing of our people, communities and environment in mind.
Your skills and experience

For this role, we are looking for great talent with:

  • A current Western Australian “C” Class and ‘HR’ Class Drivers Licence
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and respond to operational issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • A commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

Desirable:

  • Dams Safety training.
  • Experience working with chlorine systems.
  • Confined Space Entry (CSE) certification.
  • Working at Heights/Fall Prevention certification.
