At MP Space, we're revolutionising the satellite component industry by applying large-scale, streamlined production techniques to build reliable, high-efficiency satellite hardware, often reducing costs by up to 50x.
We're a tight team of 16 builders from companies like Tesla, Apple and Arista, split between Sydney and California. Our battery systems are designed into 460+ spacecraft, our first flight hardware is heading to orbit, and we're growing from one product to four to meet global demand for satellite power systems.
Role: Supply Chain Specialist | Advanced Manufacturing
Our manufacturing is about to scale, fast. To get there, we need someone who makes sure we have the right parts, from the right suppliers, at the right time.
This is a hands-on role reporting to our Head of Finance & Operations. You'll manage a global network of suppliers across the US, Europe, Asia and Australia, keep a close eye on stock and forecasts, and help build the systems that take us from spreadsheets to a scalable operation.
What you'll do:
Plan and forecast
- Turn build plans into raw material forecasts, factoring in lead times, minimum order quantities and build yields.
- Know your lead times inside out, and get ahead of the curve so shortages never become surprises.
- Keep the bill of materials in step with engineering changes across our growing product range.
- Adjust quickly when build plans change (they will!)
- Keep leadership informed on material risk, spend and forecast changes.
- Raise and manage purchase orders from quote through to delivery and invoice.
- Build strong working relationships with specialist suppliers, including cell, PCB assembly, machining, cable harness and surface finishing vendors.
- Align suppliers with our standard terms, and run RFQs with some suppliers
- Manage outbound logistics making sure our customers receive their orders on time & to spec every time
- Over time, help broaden our supplier base and set up dual sourcing for critical parts.
Receive and manage inventory
- Receive parts into our lab and make sure they arrive with the right certificates of conformance and material traceability for flight hardware.
- Keep accurate inventory records across components, sub-assemblies and finished goods.
- Balance holding enough stock to hit customer dates against tying up cash in inventory.
Build the system
- Help embed inventory management into the in-house manufacturing system we're building.
- Turn spreadsheet-based processes into systemised workflows as volumes grow.
- Work closely with production, engineering and our program team so supply always matches what we've committed to customers
You'll likely bring:
- Some experience in operations, procurement, supply chain, finance or project support - ideally in manufacturing or hard materials
- Strong analytical skills, Excel ability & financial acumen
- An engineering degree (our team has a mix of mechanical, electronics, mechatronics and aerospace backgrounds) is a plus, but we care more about how you think
- Skill and confidence to communicate with suppliers - firm when you need to be and someone they want to work with.
- A sharp eye for detail, and the ability to spot a problem three months before it lands.
- Enough technical curiosity to understand what you're buying and why it matters.
- A self directed orientation
- Comfort with startup pace, including changing build plans and shifting goalposts.
