Job summary

CSI Mining Services in Weipa, North Queensland, is recruiting a Mining Superintendent to lead day-to-day mining and maintenance operations. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide direction, mentorship, and hands-on supervision to ensure safe, productive outcomes on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Brisbane or Cairns.

The role requires coordinating load and haul activities, optimisation of production, workforce planning, and ensuring compliance with safety standards, environmental guidelines

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering (desirable).
  • Experience leading maintenance teams, especially with Kenworth 509 prime movers.
  • Current Statutory Supervisor Schedule 26 or working towards.
  • Significant leadership experience in an operational mining environment.
  • SSE or QM certification is highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of mining equipment and processes.
  • Experience with workforce planning and training needs analysis.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret technical data for decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and coordinate all mining load and haul activities ensuring production targets are met.
  • Optimise production efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve resource recovery.
  • Ensure that all mining operations comply with safety standards, legal regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Workforce planning for production teams
  • Comprehensive Mechanical Oversight – manage maintenance, repair, and optimisation of mining equipment across assets.
  • Strategic Maintenance Coordination – plan and allocate mechanical resources to meet targets while minimising downtime.
  • Assisting with planning, coordination, and allocation of resources to achieve weekly outputs.
  • Promoting and monitoring safety systems and documentation to meet site standards.
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and safety.
  • Coaching and supporting Supervisors and their teams to manage performance.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Mining Superintendent is responsible for delivering results and leading the day-to-day mining and maintenance operations.

This role involves managing both mining and maintenance personnel, providing clear direction, mentorship, and effective supervision to ensure safe and efficient operations.

The position operates on an 8/6 roster based in Weipa, North Queensland, with fly-in, fly-out arrangements from Brisbane or Cairns, QLD.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and coordinate all mining load and haul activities ensuring production targets are met
  • Optimise production efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve resource recovery.
  • Ensure that all mining operations comply with safety standards, legal regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Workforce planning for production teams
  • Comprehensive Mechanical Oversight – Proven ability to manage the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of a diverse fleet of mining equipment, ensuring mechanical integrity across all assets
  • Strategic Maintenance Coordination – Skilled in planning, prioritising, and allocating mechanical resources to meet production targets while minimising equipment downtime.
  • Assisting with the planning, coordination, and allocation of physical and team resources to achieve weekly outputs.
  • Promoting and monitoring the use of safety systems, including relevant tools and documentation, to meet site safety standards.
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, reduce project costs, and enhance safety.
  • Coaching and supporting Supervisors and their respective teams to effectively manage team performance.
What is Required?
  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering (desirable)
  • Experience in managing maintenance teams, specifically Kenworth 509 prime movers
  • Current Statutory Supervisor Schedule 26 or working towards
  • Significant experience working in a Leadership role within the operational mining environment
  • SSE or QM certification is highly advantageous
  • Strong understanding of mining equipment and operational processes
  • Experience with workforce planning and training needs analysis
  • Ability to analyse and interpret technical data to make informed operational decisions
