Qualifications

• High level interpersonal skills to establish productive relationships with students, staff and the school community.
• Ability to follow directions outlined by HOSES, SEP teachers and classroom teachers and report concerns to the class teacher or case manager.
• Ability to communicate effectively to instruct small groups or individual students under the direction of teachers and/or therapists.
• Knowledge and understanding of a range of disabilities is an advantage.
• Adaptability to cater for diverse student needs with patience, tact and sensitivity.
• Ability to ensure all aspects of Individual Behaviour plans, Medical/Health plans and Risk Management plans are implemented.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers and students during classroom activities, sporting events, excursions and other educational activities.
• Provide assistance to students with additional needs, including positioning, meals, toileting, dressing and general wellbeing.
• Assist with preparation, organisation, use and storage of teaching materials, equipment and classroom resources.
• Maintain student records and provide clerical support (class rolls, student results, photocopying, preparing teaching materials).
• Support literacy and numeracy activities through individual and small-group assistance, including reading and use of computers.
