Job summary

Hatch, based in Brisbane, Queensland, invites high-potential mining engineering students to join the Vacation Student Program. You will work on real projects across the mining lifecycle, receiving mentoring from experienced engineers and contributing to scoping, feasibility studies and detailed design.

This 12-week program emphasizes practical skill-building in mine design, planning, materials handling, ventilation studies and equipment selection within a collaborative global consultancy.

Qualifications

  • You will be working towards a bachelor/master’s degree in Mining Engineering with a strong academic record.
  • You will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to complete project deliverables.
  • Contribute to mine design, mine planning, materials handling systems, and equipment selection.
  • Support ventilation studies and technical evaluations.
  • Engage with clients and teams to deliver innovative mining solutions.

Vacation Student opportunity: Build the extraordinary, every day

The Hatch Vacation Student Program provides the opportunity to work on real projects and gain practical industry skills. We will help you through the transition, bridging the gap between your education and career.

As part of the Mining Team, you will work alongside experienced mining engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver innovative solutions across the mining industry. Our team supports clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from scoping and conceptual studies through to pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and operational optimisation. You will have the opportunity to contribute to mine design, mine planning, materials handling systems, ventilation studies, equipment selection, and technical evaluations while gaining exposure to both local and global mining projects. Working in a collaborative environment, you will develop practical engineering skills, build industry knowledge, and help create sustainable solutions.

You will be working towards a bachelor/master’s degree in Mining Engineering, ideally in your third year (or later) of study, with a strong academic record. Candidates will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and will be collaborators with the ability to think laterally and innovatively to solve problems. You will also have an interest in exploring a future with a global consulting company and are committed to creating positive change.

The 12-week program commences on Monday, 23 Nov 2026. Please note, during this time Hatch will have its annual office closure from COB Friday, 18 December 2026 and will reopen Monday, 4 January 2027.
