Job summary

Geocon in Canberra is seeking a Management Accountant who will partner with project managers and development teams, supporting financial compliance and forecasting. You will work closely with the CFO and Financial Controller to manage month-end processes, tax lodgements, and financial controls within a dynamic property development environment.

The role requires a degree in accounting or finance, CA/CPA qualification (or progress towards), and strong Excel/data forecasting skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CA/CPA qualification or working towards it.
• Finance background in a corporate environment with project accounting experience is preferred.
• Construction or property industry experience is highly regarded.
• Strong Excel skills with data analysis and forecasting.
• Ability to improve systems and processes, not just run them.
• Clear communicator who can explain numbers to non-finance people.
• Organised, self-driven and able to handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with MS Dynamics 365, Salesforce or Power BI is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Run month-end activities, including accruals, prepayments and project WIP reviews.
• Review and finalise monthly financial results and forecasts.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review project forecasts, track monthly variances and assess cost forecasts and controls.
• Prepare and lodge BAS and payroll tax.
• Review and approve weekly construction workers' payroll (under EBA) and issue wage cost reports.
• Review and authorise commission, rental guarantee expenses and settlement statements.
• Assist with income tax workpapers, FBT, PTRS, TPAR, ACIRT, portable LSL, ABS surveys and other statutory requirements.
• Liaise with ATO, auditors and regulators, and support annual external audit.
• Support the Finance team with ad hoc projects.
