Job summary

Deakin University is seeking a Strategic Adviser to partner with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor University Services to shape strategic direction and deliver organisational impact across campuses in Geelong and Melbourne.

You will translate priorities into practical strategies, provide expert advice to senior leaders, lead continuous improvement, and build collaboration across the university. This is a five-year fixed-term role with hybrid work and generous leave entitlements.

Responsibilities

• Lead a defined portfolio or specialist function, translating University priorities into practical strategies, frameworks and deliverables while adapting to evolving needs and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders on complex operational and strategic matters, using sound judgement, critical analysis and evidence-based recommendations to influence decisions and direction.
• Drive the development and improvement of systems, processes, frameworks and professional practices to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency and responsiveness to stakeholder needs.
• Lead, support and develop team members by setting clear expectations, fostering accountability, providing constructive feedback and promoting continuous learning and high performance.
• Build productive relationships across the University and with external partners, collaborating to align priorities, resolve complex issues and achieve shared strategic objectives.
• Apply specialist expertise, interpret policies and emerging trends, and contribute to broader strategic initiatives, demonstrating autonomy, initiative and flexibility to deliver sustainable outcomes in a complex and evolving environment.
