Job summary

City of Armadale seeks an experienced Head of Environment and Sustainability to lead environmental planning, compliance, circular economy, carbon management and waste/resource recovery initiatives. You will guide strategy, build a capable team and ensure practical delivery for a growing city.

You will report to the Executive Director Technical Services, shape partnerships with government, industry and community groups, manage budgets and contracts, and translate policy into action across

Qualifications

• Experience leading environmental, sustainability or related service areas.
• A practical, problem-solving leadership style.
• Ability to take ownership, make decisions and follow through.
• Strong understanding of environmental compliance, governance, risk and stakeholder expectations.
• Ability to work across technical, operational, community and political environments.
• Confidence to lead a team through change, growth and competing priorities.
• Sound financial, procurement, contract and project management capability.
• Ability to communicate clearly and influence at senior levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental planning, compliance, sustainability, circular economy, carbon management and waste/resource recovery planning.
• Develop a capable Environment and Sustainability function to support City growth and community outcomes.
• Provide clear advice to Executive, Council and internal stakeholders; build relationships with government agencies and community groups.
• Manage budgets, procurement and contracts; translate strategy into action across strategy, operations and delivery.
• Help set direction for environment and sustainability priorities and deliver practical outcomes for the community.
