Job summary

The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a Team Lead, Strategic Government Engagement, to strengthen and expand our relationships with government departments and agencies in Canberra and across Australia.

You will develop tailored stakeholder engagement plans, establish processes to support the bureau's engagement with government, and provide strategic advice to enhance collaboration and outcomes for communities through evidence-based policy and protection programs.

Job description

The bureau provides information, advice, support and services across Australia about our weather, water, oceans, space weather and the climate. To do this, we need to form strong relationships across all levels of government to ensure when it's needed, we can work together to support the community.

The Team Lead, Strategic Government Engagement, sits within the Government Relations team and reports to the Manager, Government Relations. The Government Relations team is responsible for ensuring the bureau meets its obligations and responsibilities to its minister, parliament and other government departments/agencies.

As the Team Lead, Strategic Government Engagement, you will proactively and strategically support and grow the bureau's relationships with other government departments and agencies. This is a new role to implement and support the bureau's strategic government engagement framework.

In this newly established role, your first priorities will be to develop tailored stakeholder engagement plans and establish processes to support the bureau's engagement with government.

You will be a strategic thinker and have exceptional judgement, be flexible and innovative, as well as have an outstanding ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and diverse stakeholders.

You will need highly developed oral and written communication skills to be able to present your ideas in a compelling manner and you will be a networker who has well-developed liaison skills and can form relationships quickly.
