Job summary

The Salvation Army in Darwin is seeking an External Communications Lead to join our Communications team and help connect the organisation with community partners across Australia. This permanent full-time, on-site role based at the Darwin Regional Administrative Office focuses on strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.

You will lead media relations, advise leadership, and build partnerships with government and community organisations to support mission outcomes and campaigns.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, or related discipline (preferred).
• Experience engaging and influencing at executive and senior leadership levels.
• Strong relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
• Media relations experience and ability to promote the organisation.
• Confident public speaker with experience presenting to diverse audiences.
• Experience across CMS, social media, print, and radio (preferred).
• Not-for-profit sector understanding highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of the Communications strategy across the Division.
• Provide strategic communications advice and updates to leadership.
• Build and maintain relationships with local, territory, and Federal government stakeholders.
• Drive community engagement initiatives across the Division.
• Develop and manage media relationships with national teams.
• Collaborate on fundraising campaigns, schools engagement, and major events.
• Identify partnerships to support advocacy, fundraising, and mission outcomes.
• Maintain stakeholder engagement records and provide insights for government and community relations.
• Monitor issues and reputational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Ensure all communications comply with legislation and policies.
