About the Ngaanyatjarra Council

The Ngaanyatjarra Lands are managed by the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group, a wholly community‑led entity representing the interests of Traditional Owners (Yarnangu) who reside in the communities of Warburton, Irrunytju (Wingellina), Papulankutja (Blackstone), Mantamaru (Jameson), Warakurna, Tjirrkarli, Tjukurla, Wanarn, Kiwirrkurra, Patjarr and Pira Kata (Kanpa). Each community is an autonomous, separately incorporated body. Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) is central to life in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, with Yarnangu maintaining an unbroken connection to Tjukurrpa for more than 65,000 years.

Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing over 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres, and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated couple to take on the role of Store Managers within a vibrant, remote community based in WA, contributing to its growth and sustainability. You will play a crucial role in shaping the store’s future, setting new standards for operational excellence, and supporting the community’s development.

Community retail stores play a vital role in providing food security and nutrition and this role as Store Manager presents an opportunity, with support from NG Council, to develop and implement policies, processes and systems that will help ensure that our services become a benchmark for efficiency and excellence and serves as a blueprint for other stores.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the daily operations, including providing supervision and training to staff and fostering a productive and culturally sensitive work environment.
  • Managing stock levels, controlling waste and shrinkage, and maximising merchandising opportunities.
  • Developing, implementing and ensuring adherence to store policies.
  • Managing financial transactions and working with NG Council to provide meaningful financial performance summaries for store owners.
  • Driving sales performance and achieving gross profit targets, ensuring adherence to NG Councils policies.
About You

We are looking for a highly motivated couple with substantial managerial experience in a supermarket or similar retail environment. You should have a proven track record of operational excellence and a deep understanding of best practices in store management. Your background should include significant experience in store improvement, process design, stock management, and point-of-sale systems.

As a couple, you will work collaboratively to lead and develop teams, manage budgets, and enhance service delivery while maintaining high customer satisfaction. Resilience and an openness to change are crucial, as is the ability to effectively address and resolve customer issues. Your experience should demonstrate a commitment to fostering a productive, culturally sensitive work environment and driving operational success.

You are enthusiastic about leading a transformative role and establishing a new operational blueprint. Your strong commercial acumen, community engagement skills, and ability to build cohesive relationships are essential. You should also possess strong computer literacy, with the ability to learn new software.
