Stats Central is a team of nine statisticians and two bioinformaticians offering UNSW researchers support and training in study design and analysis, as part of the university’s 2025 Strategy. It is based in the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre in the Division of Research and Enterprise, a centralised unit that manages major research infrastructure at UNSW and provides relevant technical and consulting expertise.

The Statistical Consultant (Research) will provide advice on or lead study design, analysis, and communication of results in a cross-disciplinary context on research contracts with partners around the university.

Who You Are:

You have a PhD in Applied Statistics or related discipline, and can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Design and analysis of clinical trials, and advanced statistical techniques common in health and behavioural research, such as generalised linear mixed models, survival analysis, time series, data imputation methods and meta-analysis.
• Ability to meet project requirements and deadlines and at a high level with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, and the capacity for independent decision- making using initiative.
• Establish and manage consultative, productive relationships with researchers from different backgrounds and communicate statistical concepts clearly to non-statisticians.
• Provide effective statistical mentoring to research staff.
• Ability to develop statistical methodology or statistical software applications, and to write code in multiple statistical packages.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
