Job description

We're leading an AI-powered engineering transformation at scale.

You have full-stack .NET, React, cloud and DevOps expertise.

Together we reinvent home lending for millions of customers.

Do work that matters:

Buying a home is one of life's biggest milestones, and we're building the technology that helps customers navigate it long after settlement. As a Staff Software Engineer in the Manage & Own Chapter, you'll help shape digital experiences used by millions of Australians to manage one of their most important financial commitments. Driven by the Seamless Variations and Smarter Repayments squads, this chapter is transforming how customers adapt their home loans as life changes and empowering them with smarter ways to take control of their repayments. Working across .NET, ASP.NET Core, React and Next.js, you'll solve complex engineering challenges at scale while delivering secure, intuitive and high-performing customer experiences.

This is a chapter built for engineers who want real ownership, influence and impact. Operating with a true "you build it, you own it" mindset, you'll drive architecture, shape technical strategy and lead the delivery of modern cloud-native solutions from concept to production. Leveraging AI-powered engineering, DevSecOps practices and modern platform capabilities, you'll work alongside exceptional engineers to build the future of digital home lending. If you're passionate about cutting-edge technology, technical leadership and creating experiences that genuinely improve customers' financial wellbeing, you'll find few opportunities with this level of scale, autonomy and purpose.

See yourself in our team:

Join a team that’s reshaping how customers manage their home loans through the Manage & Own Crew in CBA’s Home Buying Domain. This team builds the digital experiences and platforms that support customers long after settlement. Through squads such as Seamless Variations and Smarter Repayments, they simplify how customers manage their home loans, access greater flexibility, and navigate important financial decisions with confidence. Their work delivers secure, scalable and customer-centric solutions that positively impact millions of Australians.

This is a team that truly owns what it builds. Operating with a full-stack, full-lifecycle engineering model, they are responsible for everything from architecture and design through to deployment, observability and continuous improvement. By leveraging modern cloud technologies and AI-powered engineering practices, they are redefining how software is delivered, accelerating innovation and creating better customer outcomes. If you're excited by complex engineering challenges, cutting-edge technology and the opportunity to shape the future of digital home lending at scale, you'll feel right at home here.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:
  • Build and own end-to-end solutions using .NET / ASP.NET Core, React, and Next.js, delivering scalable, high-performing customer experiences.
  • Thrive across the full engineering lifecycle, from architecture and design through to CI/CD, observability, and production support.
  • Design and develop secure, resilient APIs and backend platforms with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Create modern, accessible web applications using React and Next.js, leveraging scalable component patterns and performance optimisation.
  • Use AI-powered engineering tools to accelerate development, testing, and delivery while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
  • Apply strong judgement to identify and mitigate AI-related risks, including vulnerabilities, unsafe dependencies, and inaccurate code outputs.
  • Influence technical direction through architecture leadership, engineering best practices, and strategic technology decisions.
  • Mentor and uplift engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and responsible AI adoption.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to translate complex problems into simple, impactful technology solutions that deliver business value.
We don't expect you to know everything, but experience in several of the following will set you up for success:
  • DevSecOps: Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, Terraform, SonarQube.
  • Testing: TDD, API Testing, xUnit, NUnit, Jest, Cypress, Postman, Jmeter.
  • End-to-End System Design: Distributed Systems, API Design, System Architecture.
