Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Staff iOS Engineer to lead native mobile architecture and elevate engineering standards across Commbank Mobile and NetBank. You will shape a scalable, modular codebase using Swift, SwiftUI and modern iOS patterns while driving secure, high‑performing experiences for customers.

You will mentor engineers, promote platform excellence, and partner with backend, AI and platform teams to integrate advanced services.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building native iOS applications using Swift and SwiftUI.
• Deep understanding of iOS architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, modularisation).
• Experience with concurrency, performance optimisation and memory management.
• Strong focus on accessibility, security and reliability in mobile apps.
• Experience monitoring app health, crash analytics and observability tools.

As a Staff iOS Engineer, you will be a technical lead within our Digital squad — shaping native mobile architecture, uplifting engineering standards, and driving world‑class customer experiences within Commbank Mobile and NetBank.

As a Staff iOS Engineer, you will be a technical lead within our Digital squad — shaping native mobile architecture, uplifting engineering standards, and driving world‑class customer experiences within Commbank Mobile and NetBank.

As a senior technical lead within iOS engineering, you will:

• Champion modern iOS development using Swift and SwiftUI
• Promote platform excellence across accessibility, performance, security, and reliability
• Implement and advocate Apple Human Interface Guidelines and platform best practices
• Mentor and guide engineers in writing clean, maintainable, well‑tested Swift code
• Make key architectural decisions and translate them into pragmatic, production‑ready solutions
• Collaborate with backend, AI, and platform teams to integrate Python‑based Agentic LLM services into secure mobile experiences
• Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to shape technical roadmaps and innovation initiatives.

You are a technical leader, who can influence design decisions and provide architectural guidance to squads. You bring strong full‑cycle engineering capability and are committed to engineering excellence, code quality and knowledge sharing.

• Extensive experience building native iOS applications using Swift – strong proficiency in SwiftUI and UIKit (where applicable)
• Deep understanding of iOS architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, modularisation), concurrency (async/await, combine, structured concurrency), performance optimisation and memory management, accessibility and inclusive design, secure mobile development practices
• Experience monitoring app health, crash analytics, and observability tools (AppD, Firebase, AppDynamics, Observe, Obstack)
• Experience building feature‑based, modular mobile architectures
• Strong knowledge of Apple Human Interface Guidelines and platform conventions.
• CI/CD experience (Artifactory, GitHub, GitHub Actions) and familiarity with public cloud environments (AWS preferred)
• Experience working with REST/GraphQL APIs and backend integrations
• Exposure to Next.js, TypeScript, React, and familiarity with .NET environments (nice to have)
