Job summary

Future Secure AI is hiring a Staff AI Data Scientist in Canberra to lead the development of agentic AI co-workers and enterprise-ready autonomous workflows. You will architect and deploy advanced LLM-driven agents that plan, decide, and act at scale.

Qualifications

• A Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline.
• Extensive experience delivering production ML solutions in complex environments.
• Strong NLP foundations: transformers, LSTMs, CNNs, topic modelling.
• Deep hands-on experience with LLM orchestration frameworks and multi-agent systems.
• Python-focused ML/AI development; software development experience is a plus.
• Ability to explain complex ideas clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Curiosity, ownership, and comfort in a high-velocity environment.

The Opportunity

As a Staff AI Data Scientist, you will be a senior technical leader and force multiplier driving the development of agentic AI Co-workers, multi-step reasoning systems, and enterprise-ready autonomous workflows. You will architect and deploy advanced LLM-driven agents that plan, decide, and take action - safely, reliably, and at scale.

At Staff level, you won't just build systems - you'll set the technical bar for how we build them. You'll shape the technical direction of our agentic AI platform, influence architecture decisions across multiple teams, mentor and uplift senior and mid-level talent, and ensure our systems are robust, aligned, and capable of delivering high-value outcomes in complex environments.

Your work will directly influence the evolution of how humans collaborate with AI - and how our organisation builds AI, at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and deploy agentic LLM-driven systems with planning, tool-use, workflow orchestration, and reasoning capabilities
• Apply machine learning and advanced analytics to power decision‑making within autonomous AI Co-workers
• Enhance multi-step reasoning quality, context management, and agent performance across real enterprise use cases
• Lead MLOps initiatives across evaluation, benchmarking, safety, and quality for autonomous systems
• Own and define the long‑term technical strategy for agentic AI frameworks, governance, and scalable deployment patterns across the organisation
• Act as a technical authority and trusted advisor to engineering, product, and executive teams in building production‑grade AI co-workers used by global clients
• Set technical standards and best practices, mentoring and uplifting data scientists across all levels, raising the bar for scientific and engineering excellence org-wide

About You

You are an experienced, Staff Data Scientist with a strong track record of delivering impactful, production‑grade ML systems, and deep curiosity about the fast‑moving agentic AI and LLM ecosystem. You thrive in ambiguity, communicate with clarity and authority, and take a pragmatic approach to building real, production‑ready intelligence at scale.

You bring:

• A Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline
• Extensive, demonstrated experience delivering high‑impact machine learning solutions in complex environments, ideally with a track record of technical leadership or setting direction for a team
• Strong NLP foundations: transformers, LSTMs, CNNs, topic modelling, supervised NLP
• Deep, hands‑on experience with LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex), RAG, multi‑agent systems, and tool‑calling architectures
• Python focused on ML/AI and other languages
• Experience in software development is highly desired
• Ability to explain complex ideas clearly and influence senior cross‑functional and executive stakeholders
• Curiosity, humility, and a strong sense of ownership
• Comfort operating in a high‑velocity, evolving environment - and comfort bringing structure to that ambiguity for others
