Qualifications

• Five plus years' experience in managing and leading a stable barn and team.
• Extensive experience operating high-speed galloping treadmills.
• Knowledge of race day operations and racing rules.
• Knowledge of licensing requirements and adherence to OHS procedures.
• Ability to roster and supervise stable staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day stable operations across morning and afternoon shifts, coordinating with the Trainer.
• Supervise staff, induction, training and performance management; act as Trainer when needed.
• Manage horse records, welfare monitoring and safety protocols within racing rules.
• Coordinate jumpouts and barrier trials, and assist on race days.
• Ensure compliance with racing rules and occupational health & safety procedures.

We are seeking an experienced and capable individual to join our team on a full-time basis.The Role:This position is integral to the daily organisation of Dabernig Racing. As the foreperson responsible for stable operations across morning and afternoon shifts, you will work directly with the Trainer to ensure the smooth running of the stable. This role places particular emphasis on the safe operation of the high-speed galloping treadmill and supervision of staff using it, alongside morning trackwork, including fast work, slow work and walking machines. Additionally, you will coordinate jumpouts and trials. A core responsibility is to monitor horse training operations and ensure all personnel working at Dabernig Racing are licensed and adhere to all rules and OHS procedures.Responsibilities:• Training horses for competition under supervision of lead trainer • Educating young horses, including two-year-olds, in swimming, barrier work, tying up and saddling; • Being in charge of day-to-day operations of racing stable. Directing other employees. Acting as trainer when lead trainer and assistant trainer absent and on race-day • Staff Management and Education: induction of new staff and introduction to the daily tasks, overseeing of staff performance and correction of mistakes • Recording and maintaining horse records within the rules of racing; • Discussing with the lead racehorse trainer each horse's performance and any concerns with the fitness or training of the horse after each training session • Work with stable vets to manage the ongoing welfare of horses; • Preparing and distributing feeds, liaising with the Trainer on horses' individual feed needs and working closely with the Feed Manager; • Traveling to jump-outs, barrier trials, race days, and representing the stable. • Management and Implementation of the daily training schedule in conjunction with the Trainer and Racing Manager; • Reporting to Trainer, Racing Manager & HR • Management and coordination of stable staff, including rostering;Requirements:• High attention to detail for daily horse husbandry: performing daily tasks of physical labour, including mucking out boxes, cleaning water troughs, surveying horses for injuries or ailments, tacking up and untacking horses before and after their exercise, and swimming horses • Five plus years' experience in managing and leading a stable barn and team, including experience operating high-speed galloping treadmills; • Extensive experience and confidence in handling and educating horses; • Knowledge and experience in the safe distribution, administration and recording of equine medications. • Race day experience representing a stable; • Knowledge and understanding of the rules of racing; • Knowledge of occupational health & safety protocols and best stable practices; • The ability to drive a horse float/truck will be highly regarded; • Previous experience saddling on race days will be highly regarded.If you are an experienced horseperson or have further questions, please contact Cassi on 0408 005 789 or emailApplications close on the 26th November, 2026Login is optional, you may send application via email
