Job summary

Griffin Marine in Canberra is seeking an experienced Spray Painter to join a specialist team delivering refurbishment and repair work on passenger rolling stock. Working with premium industrial coating systems in a safety‑focussed environment, you will produce premium‑quality finishes and maintain high standards of craftsmanship.

The role requires a trade qualification as an Automotive Spray Painter or demonstrated equivalent; proven experience painting rail stock, heavy vehicles or industrial

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification as an Automotive Spray Painter or demonstrated equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven experience painting rail rolling stock, heavy vehicles, automotive components or industrial equipment.
  • Experience applying industrial coating systems, including 2-pack polyurethane coatings, epoxy primers and protective paint systems.
  • Ability to achieve high-quality finishes while working to strict project specifications and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering workmanship of the highest standard.
  • Ability to interpret work instructions, technical specifications and project requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, quality and environmental standards.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Common Access Card (DCAC)
  • Confined Space, Working at Heights, EWP, Forklift and Fire Sentry tickets - desirable

Responsibilities

  • Prepare rail components, carriages, structures and equipment for painting by cleaning, sanding, grinding, filling and masking surfaces
  • Carry out detailed surface preparation, including panel repairs, filler application, feather edging and block sanding, ensuring coatings meet the highest standards of adhesion, durability and finish quality
  • Carry out precision masking, colour matching and blending while mixing and applying epoxy primers, high-build primers, 2K polyurethane and rail-approved protective coating systems to achieve premium-quality finishes
  • Apply paint finishes to rail rolling stock, fabricated components and industrial structures in accordance with project specifications
  • Produce and assess high-quality paint finishes, ensuring all work meets customer expectations and project quality standards
  • Maintain spray-painting equipment, tools and work areas to a high standard
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, environmental and hazardous chemical requirements
  • Work collaboratively with tradespeople, supervisors and project teams to meet production schedules
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency and safety outcomes

Roster Options

  • WA Based: 3-week rotational roster between Henderson, WA and Canberra, ACT (travel provided)
  • ACT Based: Full-time position based in Canberra

Key Responsibilities:

About You
