Job summary

Prevail Insurance is seeking a commercially minded Underwriter to join our specialist team, supporting growth of Specie and Fine Art portfolios. You will work closely with brokers and clients across jewellery, fine art, storage, and safe deposit sectors, delivering expert underwriting solutions and exceptional service.

You will drive profitable growth by building broker and client relationships, identifying opportunities, and communicating underwriting appetite with confidence.

Qualifications

• Experience underwriting Specie, Jeweller’s Block, Fine Art or related specialist classes.
• Proven ability to build trusted partnerships with brokers and clients.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to convey appetite and requirements.
• Strong analytical capability including valuations, security controls and accumulation risks.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage Jeweller’s Block, Commercial Fine Art and Safe Deposit risks within authority.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers and direct clients, advising on appetite and risk solutions.
• Assess complex risks across jewellery, fine art, storage, and safe deposits, considering security and valuations.
• Structure, negotiate and manage pricing, terms, and risk improvements for profitable growth.
• Support business development through broker engagement, client meetings, and industry events.
• Contribute to portfolio and product development using market intelligence and broker feedback.

About The Opportunity

We are seeking a commercially minded and relationship-driven Underwriter to join our specialist team, supporting the continued growth of our Specie and Fine Art portfolio. This is a market-facing role where you will work closely with brokers and clients across the jewellery, fine art, storage and safe deposit sectors, providing expert underwriting solutions and delivering exceptional service.

You will play a key role in driving profitable growth by building strong broker and client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and communicating underwriting appetite and risk solutions with confidence. Representing the business in meetings, industry events and presentations, you will become a trusted partner to the market while contributing valuable insights that support portfolio performance and future growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage Jeweller’s Block, Commercial Fine Art and Safe Deposit risks within delegated authority, delivering sound underwriting decisions aligned to appetite and portfolio objectives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and direct clients, providing expert guidance on product appetite, submission requirements and tailored risk solutions.
• Assess and evaluate complex risks across jewellery, fine art, storage and safe deposit sectors, considering security, valuations, stock controls, transit exposures and accumulation risk.
• Structure, negotiate and manage pricing, terms, deductibles and risk improvement requirements to achieve profitable growth and sustainable portfolio performance.
• Support business development through broker engagement, client meetings, industry events, presentations and market education initiatives.
• Contribute to portfolio and product development by leveraging market intelligence, broker feedback, claims trends and competitor insights, while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance standards.

Skills And Qualifications

• Demonstrated underwriting experience, ideally within Specie, Jeweller’s Block, Fine Art, or other specialist insurance classes, with the ability to make sound commercial and risk-based decisions.
• Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to build trusted partnerships with brokers, clients and industry contacts.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to clearly explain underwriting appetite, risk requirements and technical concepts to a broad audience.
• Strong analytical capability, with experience assessing complex risks, including valuations, security controls, stock management, transit exposures and accumulation risks.
• Commercially minded and solutions-focused, with a genuine interest in market trends, portfolio performance, business growth and delivering exceptional client outcomes.
• Highly organised and accountable, with strong attention to detail, sound judgement, integrity and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
