With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.

Your role

Reporting to the Director People, the Specialist People Business Partner will provide site-based HR business partnering support across Newmont's remote Tanami operations in the Northern Territory.

Working closely with operational and senior leadership teams you will provide practical, trusted advice across employee relations and the broader employee lifecycle.

As part of a small and collaborative People team you will also be required to operate confidently as the on-site People representative during roster rotations.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with operational and senior leaders to understand business priorities, diagnose people and organisational challenges, and shape practical workforce strategies and solutions that support operational performance.
  • Provide trusted, independent advice and constructive challenge to leaders across complex employee relations, performance and workforce matters, exercising sound judgement and balancing business requirements, employee experience, procedural fairness and risk.
  • Partner with leaders on workforce planning, organisational design, capability and succession, ensuring the operation has the structure, leadership capability and workforce required to meet current and future business needs.
  • Use workforce data, operational insights and employee feedback to identify emerging trends, risks and opportunities, partnering across Talent Acquisition, People Services and specialist People functions to develop and implement integrated People solutions.
  • Lead and embed People strategies and initiatives across the operation, building trusted relationships, influencing leadership behaviours and demonstrating reflective practice by seeking feedback, evaluating impact and adapting approach to continuously strengthen Business Partner effectiveness.

Your skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline, with a minimum of 10 years' progressive HR experience, including significant experience in a People/HR Business Partner or senior HR generalist capacity within mining, resources or a similarly complex operational environment.
  • Strong practical expertise in Australian employment and employee relations legislation, including the Fair Work framework, enterprise agreements, grievance management, investigations, performance management and disciplinary processes, with demonstrated experience applying this knowledge to complex workplace matters.
  • Demonstrated experience operating autonomously as a trusted Business Partner to operational and senior leaders, providing sound judgement, constructive challenge and practical advice across complex employee relations, workforce, organisational and people matters.
  • Proven ability to influence at senior leadership level and operate effectively in a complex, geographically dispersed or remote operational environment, supported by strong stakeholder management, communication and analytical capability, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Ability to work a FIFO roster in a permanent site-based role, with full and unrestricted Australian working rights.

Your work environment

Tanami is one of Australia's most remote and significant underground gold mines, located deep in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory. As a fully fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) operation, Tanami flies around 1,800 employees and contractors to site via its own airstrip, with teams working on a rotational camp roster. The mine was originally an open-pit operation but has evolved into a world-class underground asset with extensive modern infrastructure. A major expansion (Tanami Expansion 2) is underway - including a 1.5-kilometre-deep hoisting shaft - to extend Tanami's life beyond 2040 and increase production efficiency. The remote location fosters a close-knit team spirit, where safety and mutual respect are paramount. Tanami's workforce is proud to work in partnership with the local Warlpiri people on whose land we operate, ensuring that our presence contributes positively to communities. Working at Tanami means tackling unique technical challenges in a supportive environment, with a strong focus on Always Safe, responsible operations and improving daily to secure this mine's long-term future.

This Tanami site-based position will work on a fly in fly out roster of 8 days on site, 6 days off from point of hire Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.
