Job summary

BHP's Data Analytics team is seeking a Specialist Data Science professional to develop and improve trusted data products that support maintenance performance and decision-making across BHP's global operations.

Based in Brisbane, this permanent role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with flexible working options. You will design, develop and maintain scalable data solutions, collaborate with data scientists, analysts, SMEs and operations, and deliver insights that drive better maintenance outcomes.

About the Role

BHP’s Data Analytics team manages critical maintenance datasets and delivers data-driven diagnostics that help improve maintenance productivity and cost outcomes across BHP's global operations. Combining advanced analytics with deep operational understanding, the team partners with operations to identify improvement opportunities and support evidence-based decision making.

As a Specialist Data Science within the Data Analytics team, you will play a key role in developing and improving trusted data and analytics products that support maintenance performance and decision‑making across BHP. Leveraging BHP’s extensive datasets and modern data technologies, you will design, develop and maintain scalable data products, analytical solutions and insights that help our customers understand performance, identify opportunities and make better-informed decisions

The Specialist Data Science will be working collaboratively alongside other data scientists and analysts, performance and improvement specialists, and operations and business subject matter experts to level up BHP’s maintenance productivity.

This is a Brisbane based role offering permanent opportunity working Monday to Friday. Flexible working options are available.

In this role, you will:

• Investigate complex problems using a structured problem-solving approach
• Write code and conduct analysis utilising a range of technologies and techniques
• Build and enhance scalable data and analytics products using modern technologies.
• Drive improvements in data quality, automation and standardisation
• Work closely with stakeholders and SMEs to formulate asset management strategies from insights.
• Confidently present ideas, results, and recommendations to stakeholders at all organisational levels

About You

You will have a related tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in supporting business improvement strategies and initiatives.

You will:

• Have strong analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
• Have experience programming in Python and SQL to:
• Build descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive modelling
• Perform structured and unstructured data mining
• Be a collaborative team player that is results orientated
• Thrive in dynamic, fast paced teams.

Other highly regarded experience includes:

• Have experience in exploring and proposing new ideas that may have benefits for the business
• Asset Management experience in mining, manufacturing, or similar heavy industry
• Experience working in engineering and/or management consulting
