Job summary

Department of Education Victoria is seeking an Education Support Officer for Officer Specialist School in Victoria, Australia. The role is a part-time (.81 time fraction) position supporting students with a range of learning needs within a specialized school environment.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with teaching staff, allied health professionals and education support staff, providing routine and specialised support, personal care, and assistance in learning activities

Qualifications

• Demonstrated capacity to undertake routine and specialised teacher assistant support tasks across a range of work areas within a Special School environment.
• Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively and communicate effectively within a team environment with a wide range of individuals including teachers, other support staff, therapists, parents and students.
• Demonstrated understanding of the principles of effective behaviour management for students with an intellectual disability who might exhibit severe challenging behaviours.
• Demonstrated understanding of intellectual disability and its impact on learning.

Responsibilities

• Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas.
• Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly the interpretation of instructions.
• Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
• Participate in team meetings.
• Assist with toileting, meals and lifting to students requiring special care where required.
• Assist in preparation of equipment and purchasing of materials and supplies as required.
