Work Type: Fixed Term to 30 June 2027, Full Time

Sector: Not For Profit (NFP)

Salary: SCHADS Award Level 6-8 (depending on experience): $100,783 - $129,205 per annum plus 12% superannuation and salary sacrificing

Midlas is a not-for-profit Community Legal Centre with offices in Midland and Ellenbrook that supports eligible clients in the north east Perth region with legal services, disability advocacy, financial counselling, tenancy advocacy, and information and referrals.

About You

Midlas is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Solicitor to join our team. Working with Midlas’ Legal Services, the Solicitor will provide advice and assistance to deliver services as part of our Family Law and Family Violence Legal Services. We are open to both Junior and Senior applicants.

Responsibilities
  • Advising clients on family law matters.
  • Drafting legal documents as required.
  • Providing Court Representation.
  • Advising clients on restraining order matters.
  • Advising clients in relation to criminal injuries compensation matters; assisting clients to lodge applications for criminal injuries compensation.
  • Providing Community Legal Education.
  • Assisting senior solicitors and legal services team with complex legal matters.
  • Co‑locating/outreach at partner sites including health, community, aged care facilities and other highly regulated environments.

Required Education / Licences / Certificates
  • Current Legal Practice Certificate issued by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.
  • Unrestricted driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • Current satisfactory National Police clearance certificate (no older than 3 months from the issue date) and ongoing renewal every 2 years at employee’s expense.
  • Working with Children Check.
Relevant Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Personal Attributes
  • Experience in family law, restraining orders or criminal injuries compensation matters.
  • High quality legal drafting skills.
  • Ability to thoroughly research complex issues using legislation, case law, rulings and commentary.
  • Experience drafting Family Court documents.
  • Experience managing legal files.
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of clients.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage workload and set priorities.
  • Commitment to principles of social justice and providing exceptional client service.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and client database management systems.
