Job summary

CORTO is hiring a mid-level backend engineer to extend and own integrations for our AI-powered legal tech platform. You’ll work on Document automation, build RESTful APIs, and scale backend services on AWS with .NET.

You’ll join a fast-growing Sydney team, collaborating across product and engineering to deliver reliable, scalable solutions for lawyers and paralegals. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of commercial software experience, strong C#/.NET skills, and a passion for building maintainable

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' commercial software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Proven experience building backend services and APIs in C# and .NET.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and relational data models, preferably with AWS RDS or Aurora MySQL.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, and S3.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development and tooling is a plus.

What You’ll Do

We are looking for a mid-level engineer to join a backend team of three engineers, reporting to our Lead Engineer. You’ll split your time between extending our current integrations and owning new integrations. You’ll be working on our Document automation which is the bread and butter of our core product. Lawyers use it every day to generate precedents and documents.

To make this happen you will

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions with a strong focus on backend development using C# and .NET
• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, integrations, and event-driven solutions on AWS using Lambda, SQS and S3.
• Apply software engineering best practices and industry standards, including agile methodologies, automated testing, code reviews, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of development practices, architecture, tooling, and engineering standards.

What You’ll Bring

3-5 years' commercial software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development

• Strong commercial experience building backend services and APIs in C# and .NET
• Demonstrated experience with:
• Design and implementation of RESTful APIs with .NET, preferably .NET 10.
• Design of relational database schemas and data models, preferably with AWS RDS or Amazon Aurora MySQL
• Event-driven solutions, preferably using Amazon SQS, S3 and other AWS Lambda services
• AI-assisted development and tooling, including MCP servers, structured prompting, and the development of AI tools and skills
• Integration with workspace APIs, preferably Microsoft Graph and Google Gmail APIs
• Server-side document generation and modification using libraries or platforms such as Aspose or similar.

Even better if you have

• Integration with Microsoft Graph API, including Microsoft 365 services such as Outlook, Calendar, OneDrive, and related APIs.
• Integration with Google APIs, particularly Google Workspace services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Drive.
• macOS application development, including experience building, integrating, or supporting applications and services on Mac.
• Experience developing integrations across Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace ecosystems.
