Job summary

Virgin Australia is expanding its Brisbane Digital Engineering team to build a new customer-facing, full-stack web application. Based at our Brisbane Head Office, you’ll join a cross-functional squad that moves features from idea to delivery using modern technologies and engineering practices to create scalable, intuitive experiences.

You’ll work with Product Owners, designers and fellow engineers to deliver end-to-end features, write clean, tested code, and continuously improve engineering

What you’ll be doing

Based in our Brisbane Head Office, we have three opportunities for Engineers to join our Digital Engineering team and help build a new customer-facing, full-stack web application.

Working within a cross-functional Digital squad, you’ll help take features from idea through to delivery, using modern technologies and engineering practices to create scalable, intuitive and high-performing digital experiences.

• Work across the application stack, from responsive front-end components through to API integration and backend for front-end functionality.
• Contribute to solution design, technical problem solving and engineering decisions.
• Work closely with Product Owners, designers and fellow engineers to deliver features end-to-end.
• Build clean, scalable, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Help ensure our digital experiences are performant, accessible and easy to use.
• Use modern engineering practices, automation and AI-assisted development tools to improve quality and delivery.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across our engineering practices, tools and ways of working.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need

• Proven experience building modern web applications, ideally within customer-facing digital environments.
• Experience working with APIs and integrating data and services into web applications.
• A track record of writing clean, scalable and well-tested code.
• Experience delivering software within an Agile, cross-functional environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You’ll be great in this role if...

We’re building a team with complementary technical strengths, so you don’t need to tick every box. We’d particularly love to hear from engineers who bring deeper experience in one or more of the following:

• Front-end engineering – React, CSS, accessible, responsive interfaces and reusable component development.
• Full-stack / backend for front-end – consuming APIs, transforming data and connecting services through to the customer-facing experience.
• CMS and content modelling – working with CMS-driven or JSON-based content, ideally with exposure to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
• Test automation – experience with tools such as Playwright or similar frameworks.
• Modern development and collaboration tools including GitLab, Jira and Confluence.
• AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex or similar.
