Job summary

IMC Trading is seeking an experienced software developer to join the Development Platform team in Sydney. The role focuses on building robust tooling, improving build systems, and accelerating delivery across trading, research, and engineering.

You will work across Python, Java, and C++, optimize build times, implement CI/CD pipelines, and partner with development teams to raise code quality and maintainability. This role supports a global trading environment with high collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software development experience in Python, Java, and/or C++.
• Experience with stable build environments and rapid feedback cycles.
• Familiarity with Bazel or similar monorepo build systems.
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, TeamCity, GoCD).
• Hands-on containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong written and verbal communication with diverse teams.

We're looking for an experienced software developer with strong communication skills to join our Development Platform team. The Development Platform team exists to amplify the effectiveness of trading, research, and engineering teams. Instead of directly building trading strategies, we provide the tools, infrastructure, and processes that support all software development, aiming at reducing friction and accelerating delivery.

The role requires building robust solutions and solving challenges up and down the tech stack. The team owns and evolves IMC's build systems and development tooling, continually tackling bottlenecks in build and development processes, whether that means an impactful one-line fix or migrating an entire codebase to Bazel. The team supports codebases in a variety of languages, including Python, C++, and Java, to improve the daily productivity of hundreds of developers across the globe.

Your Core Responsibilities

• Identify and implement improvements to software development workflows, from targeted, iterative refinements to sweeping architectural redesigns.
• Scale and advance IMC's trading systems builds and development tooling to support an excellent work environment for developers.
• Optimise compile times, improve code quality systems, and simplify software processes to improve the daily workflow of engineers
• Troubleshoot potential issues with build infrastructure and implementing improvements.
• Design and build infrastructure supporting the development, build, test, and release processes.
• Partner with development teams to align platform capabilities with their evolving needs, and drive adoption of best practices in code health, development productivity, and maintainability.

Your Skills And Experience

• 3+ years of software development experience in Python, Java, and/or C++ required.
• Knowledge of stable, dependable build environments and rapid feedback cycles.
• Prior experience with Bazel or other monorepo-build software required.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity and GoCD.
• Experience with containerization technologies and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in interacting with stakeholders across all phases of product design, development, and delivery.
