Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network delivering fast, reliable internet to customers beyond existing networks.

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to anchor the system's ground-up build, with strong depth in distributed systems, knowledge representation, and AI/ML engineering, and to lead a high-performing team in a fast-moving domain.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling).
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, distributed software applications using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Developer Experience organization owns the entire path from commit to satellite. This is a unique opportunity to offer this scope to platform engineers.

We will build a unified platform that empower Leo engineers to see their code affect satellite operations within days not weeks, months or a quarter. We will build a self-service platform as the intelligence layer, to empower engineers with real-time root cause attribution and triaging in CT production, conversational analytics agents, automated narrative generation and potential bugs discovery capabilities.

We are looking for a Senior engineer with experience in supporting mission-critical applications, who are excited about building solutions that enhance automation, stability, and release processes across multiple systems.

You will be the technical anchor for how the system will be built from ground up. You bring strong depth in distributed systems, knowledge representation, and AI/ML engineering, combined with the people leadership skills to hire, develop, and retain high-performing engineers in a fast-moving, ambiguous domain.

A day in the life

A Software Development Engineer works closely with Principal Engineer, Sr. Principal Engineer to deal with ambiguity and define technical strategy. The engineer will also work with the release teams to deeply understand the current workflow, use cases, pain points, inefficiency and come up with innovative simple solution.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience

• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience

• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience

• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
