Job summary

Amazon Leo, the satellite internet initiative, is seeking experienced software engineers to contribute across the full software lifecycle from requirements to operations. You will develop embedded software for real-time systems and build AWS cloud services to manage Leo satellites, enabling reliable satellite command, file transfers and telemetry.

The role collaborates with ground and agent teams to ensure scalable, safe and available Leo services for a diverse set of customers and missions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing and developing large-scale, multi-threaded software applications and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will participate in all phases of software development from requirements through implementation and test to operations. Our team vision is to automate mission planning and execution to efficiently operate the Leo fleet at scale, while maintaining space safety and maximizing service availability for Leo satellite Internet customers.

• Develop embedded software in C, C++, Rust, or other languages in a real-time operating system environment
• Develop AWS cloud services that manage the Leo satellites
• Write system applications for satellite command, file transfer and telemetry
• Work closely with Leo ground service teams and satellite agent teams to support satellite operations

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

About the team

The team owns end to end Leo satellite onboard agents and ground services that interact with them to provide seamless Leo satellite command, file transfer, telemetry and logging.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of embedded firmware development experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
