Job summary

Northern Sydney Local Health District is seeking qualified psychologists or social workers to join a crisis counselling and support team at Royal North Shore Community Health Centre. The role covers children and adults affected by sexual abuse and assault, including families and non-offending members.

Two positions are available: Permanent Full Time and Temporary Full Time (until 02 February 2027, with possibility of ongoing employment).

Qualifications

• Full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist is required.
• Postgraduate qualification and eligibility for AASW are noted.
• Experience in crisis intervention and trauma-informed counselling is expected.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis psychosocial support and ongoing counselling to children and adults affected by sexual abuse or assault.
• Coordinate counselling and case management services, including facilitation of forensic/medical services as required.
• Support children under ten with problematic sexual behaviours and their families.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team to provide crisis psychosocial support as well as ongoing counselling to children who have experienced sexual abuse and adults who have experienced sexual assault as well as adult survivors of child sexual abuse. This role also extents to supporting children 10 years of age who display problematic and or harmful sexual behaviours and their families.

There are two roles available: one Permanent Full-Time position and one Temporary Full-Time position.

What You'll Be Doing

The Northern Sydney Sexual Assault Service provides an integrated tertiary level overall response to people who have experienced or are affected by sexual assault and children under the age of ten with problematic harmful sexual behaviours. The Sexual Assault Counsellor is responsible for the provision of integrated counselling and case management services to children, young persons and adults who are victims of sexual assault and their non-offending family members, including the provision of crisis counselling & support and facilitation of forensic/medical services as required as well as services to children under ten with problematic harmful sexual behaviours.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria

• Full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist who has completed 9 years of service as a minimum or tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and post graduate experience at a minimum of level 2 or above. Applicants must be Female – Under Section 31 (2) (h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
• Extensive specialist knowledge of child protection, the dynamics and impacts of sexual assault and relevant legal processes.
• Extensive post graduate experience in crisis intervention, case management and client centred advocacy and counselling intervention using a trauma frameworks.
• Experience working in multi disciplinary teams.
