Job summary

EnerSys is seeking a Field Service Technician to deliver safe, responsive on-site service across NSW for industrial batteries, chargers, and related equipment. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, install and commission equipment, and complete preventive maintenance while documenting results and maintaining quality records.

Qualifications

• Practical fault-finding capability and the ability to interpret technical instructions, wiring information and service documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication, numeracy and accurate digital record keeping.

Role Overview

Provide safe, responsive and high-quality field service to EnerSys industrial mobility customers across NSW. The role diagnoses faults, completes repairs and preventive maintenance, and installs and commissions industrial batteries, chargers and associated equipment. The technician works independently at customer sites, restores equipment to service, documents results accurately and represents EnerSys professionally.

Main Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair

• Inspect equipment, confirm the reported symptom and use a structured fault-finding process to identify electrical, electronic, electrochemical or mechanical causes.
• Use approved test instruments and diagnostic tools to check batteries, cells, chargers, cables, connectors, controls and related equipment.
• Complete authorised repairs, component replacement, adjustments and corrective maintenance in accordance with technical instructions and quality standards.
• Verify the repair through functional and safety testing before returning equipment to service.
• Identify warranty concerns and non-conforming product, preserve evidence and elevate findings through the required process.

Install and commission

• Install and replace industrial batteries, chargers, connectors, cables, watering systems, monitoring devices and approved accessories.
• Complete pre-start checks, site risk assessments, isolations and installation checks before work begins.
• Assemble, position and connect equipment using approved lifting aids, tooling and procedures, within licence and competency requirements.
• Commission equipment, record baseline readings, confirm correct operation and complete customer handover.
• Raise site constraints, scope gaps or additional work before proceeding and coordinate licensed trades where required.

Planned maintenance and customer support

• Complete scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance to the approved checklist and manufacturer requirements.
• Assess battery and charger condition, identify developing defects and recommend practical corrective actions.
• Provide customers with clear guidance on safe operation, charging, watering, housekeeping and daily care relevant to the installed equipment.
• Communicate arrival, progress, delays, equipment status and follow-up requirements to the customer and Service Operations.
• Support urgent breakdowns and broader Services activities when reasonably required.

Service administration and commercial control

• Review the work order and confirm the authorised scope before starting.
• Record labour, travel, parts, serial numbers, test results, fault findings, actions taken and outstanding recommendations in the nominated field-service system.
• Attach clear photographs and obtain customer sign-off before closing the work order.
• Do not perform additional chargeable work without approval; provide sufficient information for quotation or variation where required.
• Protect customer, employee and company information and maintain records in accordance with privacy and retention requirements.

Vehicle, tools, stock and equipment

• Maintain the service vehicle in a clean, safe and roadworthy condition and complete required inspections.
• Secure loads and transport batteries, parts, tools and dangerous goods in accordance with applicable procedures and legal requirements.
• Maintain assigned stock levels, record all parts used and investigate discrepancies promptly.
• Care for tools, lifting equipment and test instruments; complete pre-use checks and ensure calibration or inspection remains current.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout NSW.
• Demonstrated experience in field service, maintenance, repair or installation of industrial electrical, battery, material-handling, automotive or similar equipment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, including safe use of hand tools, power tools and electrical test instruments within competency.
• Practical fault-finding capability and the ability to interpret technical instructions, wiring information and service documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication, numeracy and accurate digital record keeping.
• Ability to plan work, manage priorities and operate independently at customer sites while remaining connected to the broader team.
• Ability to safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the role using prescribed controls and mechanical aids.
• Good skills in Problem solving.
• Ability to work as part of a team, with or without supervision.

Preferred:

• Relevant electrical, automotive electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical or industrial trade qualification.
• Experience with motive-power lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries, industrial chargers and battery monitoring systems.
• NSW electrical licence or other relevant licence/authorisation.
• High Risk Work Licence - Forklift (LF), White Card, First Aid, Working at Heights, EWP or dangerous-goods awareness training.
• MR or higher driver's licence and experience operating a vehicle-mounted crane/HIAB where appropriately licensed.
• Experience using mobile field-service, asset-management or ERP systems
