Job description

RWE Trading Services Australia Pty Ltd., Melbourne

To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent

Functional area: Engineering

About the role

Ready to shape grid integration for a major renewable energy portfolio across wind, solar, BESS, hydrogen and hybrid projects in the NEM? This high-impact role puts you at the centre of development, construction, commissioning and operations, with direct engagement with AEMO, NSPs, OEMs and senior internal stakeholders. You’ll thrive on complex, evolving challenges like system strength, GPS compliance, MLF, curtailment and hybrid integration — turning technical depth into commercial clarity and decisive action.

  • Lead grid connection strategy, GPS negotiation, connection applications, R1/R2 registration and ongoing compliance activities across development and operational assets.
  • Oversee and review power system modelling and studies (PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory), ensuring quality, consistency and timely delivery.
  • Provide clear technical advice on feasibility, constraints, system strength, network limitations, curtailment and MLF exposure to drive investment and delivery decisions.
  • Manage engagement with AEMO, TNSPs, DNSPs, OEMs, EPCs and external consultants to resolve technical and compliance matters at pace.
  • Steer construction, commissioning and operational handover, including model validation, testing, control settings and performance compliance.
  • Translate complex grid risks into practical options for Development, Commercial, Engineering and Operations, enabling confident, well-informed decisions.
Job requirements and experience
  • Proven NEM grid connection experience, including GPS negotiation, AEMO/NSP engagement, registration and compliance processes.
  • Hands‑on power system modelling for renewable projects using PSSE, PSCAD and/or PowerFactory.
  • Deep understanding of transmission networks, system strength, stability, constraints, MLF and technical curtailment.
  • Ability to lead technical workstreams, manage OEMs/consultants, and communicate complex issues clearly to commercial and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Mindset and behaviours: take decisions and have drive; take calculated risks and be entrepreneurial; learn from failure; speak up and challenge; be open and curious.
  • Collaborate as #TeamRWE: take ownership; set direction and deliver results; empower and enable others; promote health & safety; respect others; foster diversity & inclusion; seek and provide feedback.
Advantageous, but not essential
  • Experience with hybrid projects, BESS, grid‑forming technology or hydrogen‑related grid integration.
  • Python or other scripting capability to automate studies, analyse results and improve modelling workflows.
  • Experience supporting operational assets with compliance, curtailment diagnosis or post‑commissioning performance issues.

What we value most is someone who continuously demonstrates courage, thrives to create impact and seeks to build trusting, collaborative relationships. So, even if you think you do not yet display all of the skills listed above we would still like to hear from you.

Further we welcome applications from individuals who may not be able to commit to full‑time roles. At RWEST, finding the right person for the job is our top priority, and we are willing to explore flexible arrangements.

We want to ensure your time with us is fulfilling and rewarding. We offer a comprehensive package designed to support your well‑being as well as your personal and professional growth.

  • Broader ownership than a typical modelling or connection role — end‑to‑end influence across strategy, grid connection, compliance, operations and portfolio‑level risk.
  • Direct engagement with AEMO, network service providers, OEMs and senior stakeholders on some of Australia’s most complex renewable projects.
  • Real scope to improve modelling workflows, study governance and knowledge sharing — and to shape how grid risks are communicated and managed.
  • A supportive, inclusive culture in Melbourne, with flexibility to consider part‑time working arrangements.
