Job summary

Optus in Sydney is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to lead engineering in the Mobile Core Signalling domain. You will design robust, secure, and scalable 3G/4G/5G signalling solutions and align platform roadmaps with Optus objectives to keep our network high-performing and future-ready.

You will lead the domain’s evolution, define architecture and roadmaps, and collaborate with vendors while ensuring compliance with ICT, information, and cyber security standards.

Qualifications

• Subject-matter expertise in the Mobile Core Signalling domain.
• Strong technical proficiency across platforms, tools, architectures, and best practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to convert requirements into robust designs.
• Clear communication and collaboration with stakeholders, platform owners, and product engineering managers.
• Demonstrated leadership to mentor teams and drive buy-in across the organisation.
• Experience mapping corporate finance forecasts, service costings, and product roadmaps.

• Evaluate emerging technologies, assess their applicability, and collaborate with vendors to drive innovation.
• Ensure all solutions comply with Optus and industry ICT, information, and cyber security standards.

As a Senior Technical Specialist, you will be an engineering lead within the Mobile Core Signalling domain. You will serve as the subject matter expert, designing robust, secure, and scalable systems required to support 3G, 4G and 5G signalling core solutions. By aligning platform roadmaps with Optus’ strategic objectives, you will ensure our network is high-performing, resilient, and future-ready, keeping us ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and design technology solutions within the Mobile Core Signalling domain, ensuring alignment with both Networks target architecture and business needs.
• Lead the technical evolution of your domain by defining future-state architecture, roadmaps, and scalable development guidelines to inform team decision-making.
• Create platform documentation covering system integration, data flows, and interfaces to OSS/BSS and Upstream IT systems.
• Own the signalling platform lifecycle from design to implementation, drive platform roadmaps and upgrades and ensuring operational efficiency and reliability.

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills to translate complex business requirements into robust technical specifications and solutions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate with and influence stakeholders, platform owners, and product engineering managers.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to provide strategic consultancy, mentor technical teams, and secure buy-in across the organisation.
• Experience driving commercial and operational alignment, including mapping corporate finance forecasts, supplying service costings, and maintaining product roadmaps.
