Job summary

The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a Technical Officer Level 4 for Antarctica and Sub-Antarctica deployments. You will lead maintenance of meteorological instrumentation, supervise station activities, and support aviation observations to ensure data quality and safety during remote expeditions.

Postings are for 12–19 months with deployment to Casey/Davis/Mawson stations or Macquarie Island, involving a seven‑day roster, rigorous pre‑deployment assessments, and compliance with APS values and

Qualifications

• Mandatory leadership experience and ability to work in a diverse team.
• Proven interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
• First Aid qualification HLTAID011 with valid status.
• Current manual C class Australian Driver's License and Australian Passport.
• Willingness to undertake pre-deployment assessments and remote postings.

Responsibilities

• Carry out all Surface and Upper Air meteorological observations with timeliness and consistency.
• Monitor automatic weather station data feeds and coordinate with IT for faults.
• Undertake complex diagnosis and repair of meteorological equipment.
• Supervise station maintenance, manage work packages, and report findings.
• Liaise with stakeholders and prepare technical reports on instrumentation.
• Complete community duties and comply with APS policies and security checks.
