A newly created opportunity has arisen with a large, complex Global industrial organisation with a strong foothold in the Australian market, seeking to strengthen its central tax and finance capability. Reporting directly to an experienced and highly regarded Head of Tax, this role has been designed as a true “right hand” position and will sit at the intersection of tax, accounting, valuation, and transaction support. The organisation have undergone significant growth through M&A activity, with this set to continue into 6 and beyond.

Importantly, this role is intentionally adaptable . The scope will be shaped around the strengths of you as the successful candidate, while also providing the opportunity to diversify into new areas of tax, projects, and commercial activity over time. It is an ideal platform for someone looking to move beyond a narrow tax remit and build a genuinely well-rounded skill set aligned with future Tax Manager or Head of Tax ambitions.

The Opportunity

The role will be broadly split as follows :

  • ~% across areas such as accounting, modelling, valuation and transaction support
  • ~% tax technical work

Key focus areas include balance sheet and asset category analysis, valuations underpinning stamp duty modelling, and support across M&A, structuring, and project activity. While core tax compliance capability and knowledge is important, this is not a pure compliance role; commercial thinking, analytical strength, and the ability to support deal and project work are highly favoured.

Over time, the role can span multiple tax streams including compliance, advisory, legislative change implementation, and project / M&A-related work, depending on the candidate’s background and development goals.

Ideal Background

This role will suit candidates from a range of backgrounds, including :

  • Big 4 or mid-tier Tax or Transaction Services professionals (first movers or with limited industry experience).
  • Candidates with 2–3 years’ post-chartered experience in industry with exposure to tax, accounting, or projects.
  • Professionals with strong projects, transactions, or advisory experience and broad tax exposure.
  • International candidates (e.g. UK-trained) with relevant experience and full Australian working rights (Sponsorship is not available with this role).

Strong Excel skills, disciplined presentation capability, and comfort working with senior stakeholders are essential.

Why This Role?
  • Salary - Up to $k + Super + Bonus.
  • Role to start from February onwards on a permanent basis.
  • Direct exposure to a Head of Tax and senior executive stakeholders.
  • A role designed to flex around your strengths while actively broadening your experience.
  • Meaningful involvement in transactions, valuations, and complex commercial matters.
  • Clear development pathway for those aspiring to senior tax or finance leadership roles.
  • Sydney CBD location with some hybrid working available.

This opportunity will particularly appeal to high-calibre candidates seeking variety, complexity, and long-term career progression rather than a narrow or siloed tax role.
