Job summary

Electro Optic Systems is seeking a senior safety and engineering assurance leader to own and advance the safety framework across products and programs. You will govern safety management plans, safety cases and assurance reports, while mentoring multidisciplinary teams and engaging customers, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure safety is demonstrated with objective evidence.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in system safety or engineering assurance for complex, mission-critical systems (Defence preferred).
• Experience leading safety programs and multidisciplinary technical teams with senior stakeholders.
• Developing safety plans, hazard analyses, hazard logs, requirements, safety cases and assurance reports.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering, V&V, configuration and lifecycle governance.
• Knowledge of Defence safety and regulatory frameworks and safety standards.
• Experience interpreting contract and customer assurance requirements.
• Engineering registration/Chartered status desirable; clearance eligibility essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead EOS safety and engineering assurance capability with governance, methods, tools and competency development.
• Develop and maintain safety management plans, assurance plans, safety cases and assurance reports.
• Provide independent technical challenge and assurance with objective evidence before acceptance.
• Lead and mentor safety practitioners and build capability across teams.
• Act as senior focal point for customers, regulators, certifiers and stakeholders on safety matters.
• Establish, implement and improve product safety frameworks aligned with Defence and industry requirements.
• Plan hazard identification and safety analyses (PHA, FHA, SHA, FMEA, FTA, etc.).
• Own hazard logs, safety requirements and assurance evidence with end-to-end traceability.
• Develop safety cases and arguments demonstrating safe design across lifecycle.
• Coordinate independent reviews, audits and risk reporting to senior leadership.
• Support incident investigations and capture lessons learned for design improvements.
• Provide risk and assurance reporting to governance forums with recommendations.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and subcontractors on safety deliverables and evidence acceptance.
• Ensure safety records are controlled within EOS information, quality and configuration systems.
• Coach engineers in safety thinking and risk-based decision making.
