Job summary

Baigents Pty Ltd, a long established Melbourne consulting engineering practice, seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead technical and project delivery across diverse building projects. You will own projects from design through construction, collaborating with directors, clients, architects and builders.

Ideal candidates have strong Australian structural design experience and are ready for broader responsibility, with opportunities for mentorship and leadership within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Typically 6+ years of Australian structural engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and the NCC.
• CPEng and Victorian registration or progress toward registration highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and delivery of commercial, retail, industrial and other building projects.
• Design steel, reinforced concrete, post tensioned concrete and timber structures.
• Undertake structural assessment, alteration and strengthening of existing buildings.
• Prepare and review calculations, sketches, mark ups and technical documentation per Australian Standards and NCC.
• Review and independently check structural drawings and documentation.
• Manage technical queries and RFIs and provide practical construction phase solutions.
• Undertake site inspections, structural investigations and construction phase reviews.
• Liaise with clients, architects, builders and other consultants.
• Manage projects including scope, programme, technical delivery and coordination.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers and drafters.
• Contribute to efficient project delivery and maintain strong client relationships.

Baigents is a well established Melbourne consulting engineering practice with nearly 40 years’ experience delivering structural and civil engineering solutions across the commercial, retail, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team and take a leading role in the technical and project delivery of a diverse range of structural projects.

The Role

This is a hands on senior engineering role with responsibility across design, project delivery, client liaison and construction phase support.

You will work directly with directors, clients, architects, builders and other consultants, taking ownership of projects from design through to construction.

The role is suited to an engineer already operating at senior level who is looking for broader project responsibility, technical variety and a supportive working environment. We will also consider an outstanding intermediate engineer who is clearly ready to step into a senior role.

Key Responsibilities

About You

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Typically 6+ years of Australian structural engineering experience, although capability and experience will be considered ahead of years alone.
• Strong technical capability in structural steel and reinforced concrete design.
• Experience with post tensioned concrete, timber and existing structures will be highly regarded.
• Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards and the NCC.
• Demonstrated ability to independently deliver structural engineering projects.
• Confident dealing directly with clients, builders, architects and site teams.
• Practical and commercially aware approach to engineering and construction issues.
• Able to review the work of other engineers and drafters and provide clear technical direction.
• Well organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of project outcomes.
• Familiar with software such as SPACEGASS, Strand7, RAPT, IDEA StatiCa, Structural ToolkIit, ETABS, or similar.
• CPEng and Victorian registration, or progress toward registration, highly regarded.
• Exposure to civil design will be valued.
