Shield AI in Australia is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer in Modelling and Simulation to lead the development, integration, and operationalisation of real-time simulation environments for Hivemind Mission Autonomy programs.

You will architect high-performance C++ software, connect simulation with autonomy, hardware interfaces, and automated test pipelines, and guide engineering teams across multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Extensive software engineering and systems integration experience.
• Strong experience with modern C++ and familiarity with legacy standards.
• Professional experience with Python.
• Proven track record delivering reliable software in fast-paced engineering environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and evolution of distributed, real-time simulation systems across virtual, constructive, and live environments.
• Develop high-performance C++ software for modelling, simulation, and system interoperability, including legacy standards compatibility.
• Build real-time, distributed simulation solutions for multi-agent scenarios and high-fidelity environments.
• Integrate defence simulation frameworks (e.g., AFSIM, NGTS) to accelerate delivery and align with customer expectations.
• Deliver containerised simulation deployments using Docker and Kubernetes for development, CI, testing, and operations.
• Provide technical and project leadership to teams of 5+ across software, autonomy, perception, test, and program functions.
