Job summary

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Senior Specialist Underground Operations to provide operational insight, technical support, and site guidance across its Africa Business Unit. The role focuses on safe, efficient underground mining aligned with company standards, bridging mine planning and operations.

Responsibilities include advising on plans, production strategies, and risk management while leading improvements in safety, productivity, and equipment utilisation. Travel to sites will be extensive.

Qualifications

• Requires mining-related degree and First Class UG Mine Managers certificate.
• Minimum 10 years’ mining experience in senior technical/leadership roles.
• Solid knowledge of mechanised underground mining methods and development.
• Ability to interpret mine designs and schedules.
• Willingness to travel extensively.
• Strong financial and risk management capabilities.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Underground Operations to provide operational insight, technical support, and site-based guidance across its Africa Business Unit. This role is focused on ensuring underground mining activities are planned and executed safely, efficiently, and in line with company standards, while strengthening the link between mine planning and operational delivery.

ROLEACCOUNTABILITIES

• Support safe and efficient underground mining operations across drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, dumping, and development activities.
• Provide technical and operational guidance on mine plans, schedules, production strategies, standards, and work practices.
• Assist sites in identifying operational risks, resolving day-to-day technical issues, and improving conformance to company standards.
• Contribute to short-, medium-, and long-term planning by validating assumptions, sequencing, and equipment strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement across safety, productivity, cost control, equipment utilisation, and operational efficiency.
• Support capability building through coaching, mentoring, and practical guidance to site leadership and operational teams

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline
• First Class UG Mine Managers certificate or equivalent

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Minimum 10 years’ relevant mining experience
• Proven experience in senior technical, advisory, or operational leadership roles
• Solid understanding of:
  • Mechanised underground mining methods
  • Underground development and production
  • Drill & blast fundamentals for development and stoping
  • Underground infrastructure to support operations
  • Fleet management applications
• Ability to interpret mine designs and schedules
• Strong track record in business improvement, change management, and operational readiness
• Sound commercial, financial decision-making, and risk management capability
• Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills
• Willingness to undertake extensive business travel
